Nigeria Facts

COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES:    

 

The Department provides information on bilateral trade between Nigeria and France in various sectors of trade such as Energy, Petrochemicals, Automobile Industry, Telecommunications, agro-allied industry, etc. It maintains an active relationship with the Committee on Investments in Africa (CIAN). It does the same with the Franco-Nigerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and looks at its contributions to Franco-Nigerian economic relations. The Department also effectively handles commercial and Investment enquiries through the appropriate agencies of government in France and Nigeria. Trade Fairs in France are examined and appropriate action is taken, such as either recommending local attendance and support by the Embassy, or requesting appropriate bodies in Nigeria to attend, with a view to showcasing Nigeria’s economic portfolio. Information on similar fairs in Nigeria is disseminated to the appropriate quarters in France. The Economic and Commercial Department in the Embassy of Nigeria, Paris handles a very wide schedule. It continually seeks new and innovative ways of monitoring and ensuring effective economic policies and of promoting trade and investment between Nigeria and France.

OBJECTIVE:

 

 

The Department has the objectives of expanding and consolidating avenues for fruitful economic and trade relations with focus on increased French investment in Nigeria. It also aims to promote and encourage strong commercial exchanges between Nigeria and France. The Department is therefore divided into two parts i.e Investment Promotion and Commercial Activities, in order to achieve these objectives.

 

 

 

 

 

INVESTMENT PROMOTION:

 

 

The Department works closely with the host Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Economy in the promotion of Economic relations between both countries. It also works closely with the Mouvement des Enterprises Francaises (MEDEF), the Association of French Entrepreneurs, with a particular emphasis on investment in Nigeria.

The Department is involved with the dissemination and propagation of the objectives, activities and progress of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council (NIPC), Manufacturer’s Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA). This Department also handles and ensures effective involvement and promotion of Nigeria’s relations in general with Multilateral Economic Institutions based in Paris, such as the Paris Club, OECD, BIE, COFACE, AFD, OIE etc. The Economic and Commercial Department liaises with host authorities, the African Group and relevant International bodies in promoting the objectives of NEPAD.
